Rahul Gandhi is not against the alliance. Actually in this Bengal tour , Rahul is trying to make two things clear. Firstly he wants to encourage his party leaders and trying to increase membership in youth Congress. Secondly he is trying to send a message to Trinamool Congress that Congress is not against alliance but they need the respect of an alliance party.

    Point number 1.
Rahul Gandhi wants to increase membership, specially he wants the youth in his party. This is a long term process and also this would give a long term benifit. Rahul Gandhi has got the smell that CPI(M) may loose the bidhan sabha election 2011. Rahul's aim is to establish Congress here strongly so that in future they won't need Trinamool Congress, which at present at least seems that too much expectation.

Motivating Congress leaders in West Bengal is very tough. Rahul may not have that experience.

    Point no 2.
At present state Congress has to depend on Trinamool Congress and there is no alternative. Rahul Gandhi has to stay at Bengal for at least one month to study his leaders. Then he would get the answer whether with this force he can bargain with Trinamool Congress.

Thanks Dhananjoy for responding with good points.

Congress claims to be a over hundred year old party and does have guts to fight alone in Kolkata. Same is the case of the party in TN also. They have to go for alliance with either DMK or AIADMK. In Kolkata too Congress cannot ingore or sideline Mamata.
