    Corruption over potato purchase

    Corruption over potato purchase

A major allegation of corruption over potato purchase to the Left Front government potato farmers demanded support price for their production and urged the administration to purchase potato directly from them.

    Response of agriculture minister

State agriculture minister Mr Naren Dey said he would discuss the matter with the finance minister. A delegation of Sara Bharat Alu Chasi Sangram Committee today met Mr Dey at Writers' Buildings and submitted a memorandum demanding profitable support price from the state government to save them from incurring loss.

    Demand of potato farmers

The delegation told the minister that most potato farmers in the state were facing a number of problems and incurring huge losses every year. The soaring price of fertilizer has made the situation more difficult for them.
Hence, the potato farmers have demanded that fertilizers, pesticides and seeds be provided to them at a fair price and loans taken by marginal farmers be waived by the government on humanitarian grounds. The potato farmers said that the government should simplify the process of obtaining loans from banks. They also have demanded the loans taken by the farmers who have incurred huge losses due to drought last year have to be waived and the government has to bring all farmers under crop insurance.

    Conclusion

All the above matter can solve if the Dalal Raj(borker) is stopped and it is possible if the government and the farmers work together and also it is only possible if the political leaders are honest.

The information is really helpful sir. Corruption is nowadays in all sectors of economy. This corruption is creating problems of inequality. The rich section of the people are becoming richer where as the poor are suffering. The farmers are mainly the sufferers of this kind of corruption. The posting of this thread here may open the eyes of some people at least.
    Thank You

Subratada, don't worry. Mr. Naren Dey will be happy to spend the next 3 months (at least the pre-poll period) in the potato and paddy fields to prove it to us that Government and farmers are working in tandem. Also, it would be a "wild goose chase" in our bid to search for an "honest political leader". Let us not get into such an exercise. It will just lead to ill-health.
