There are festivals all around the year in Kolkata. The tourist attraction of 4-day Durga Puja, almost national festival of Bengalis, is held during September –October and Kali Puja during October -November. The whole city is geared up for the festival. Temporary temples or pandals are made. The deity comes dressed in glittering finery from Kumartuli. Competitions are held amongst localities in respect of pandal. lighting and idols of deities. People enjoy the innovative illumination of Puja pandals by the technicians of Chandannagar. Pandal hopping throughout the night is a favorite entertainment of the people of Kolkata. Special vehicles are also arranged on festive nights. Schools, colleges, offices, courts and commercial establishments remain closed so that people may participate in the festival. On the last day is immersion. The colorful illuminated immersion procession is a sight worth seeing. Bengalis residing outside arrive home during these days. Tourists from various places also land at Kolkata to have a view of this great festival.
