Cultural Festivals of Bengal: Pous Mela, Rabindra Jayanti

Pous Mela:-


Around December 22nd every year, at Shantiniketan of Bengal used to celebrate Pous Mela. Pous Mela was first started in the year 1891 when Adi Brahmo Shrine at the seat of Rabindranath Tagore. It is nothing but a Cultural meeting (fair) in a large ground of Shantinikan for Tribal, Rural and others. It is the fair (Mela) where Tribal, Rural and cultural elements are been exhibits in front of all for sale.

Rabindra Jayanti:-


It is the celebration of the birthday of Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore. It generally comes in the month of May every year and the most popular and widely observed Cultural Festival in the State West-Bengal. Programmes of Music, Songs, Drama and Dance composed by Rabindranath Tagore was performed everywhere in Bengal by the cultural associations and groups. State Government arranges Seminars and Meetings for discussing on the topics of Rabindranath's encyclopedic personality.

Banga Samsriti Sammelam:-


It is a 15-Day celebration, especially in Kolkata, where all the cultural programmes like Art, Dance, Music; Songs (traditional, Rural, Urban) take place. This is another cultural mela (Sammelan, means gathering) to acquire a highly representative character from cultural part of Bengal.

Netaji's Birthday:-


23rd January is the birthday of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, which is a Nationalistic Festival of Bengal. People of Bengal used to arrange processions with Boys & Girls wearing military dresses and do some parades in the memory of Netaji. Martial Band Music been played and celebrated in the mood of Revolutionary Temper in Bengal's Villages and in Towns.
