Kalpataru Utsav: Dakshineswar & Guru-Ganga

Kalpataru Utsav is the holiest festival (utsav) to the Bengalese in the world. It is celebrated on the first day of every English calendar year i.e., 1-January of every year. Bengalese have the firm believe that Sri Ramkrishna Paramhansa Deb definitely going to fulfill the pray made on this particular day.

All over India and Abroad, the Ramakrishna Missions and the followers of Ramakrishna celebrate this day with special Puja, Bhajan Sangeet and Bhog Prasad. Dakshineswar Kali Temple, which was a part of Ramakrishna, is world-famous for celebrating this (1st January) day. Thousands of pilgrims come for a holiest visit in Dakshineswar and also in Belur Ramakrishna Math.

State Government and the Railway Ministry a lot special trains from Sealdaha-Dakshineswar-Dankuni route to serve better connectivity with Kolkata and Other areas of kolkata. One could make a trip to Dakshineswar and Belur on this day. There is a ferry service from Dakshineswar Ghat to Belur Ghat to visit both of these two holiest places in a single day. Trikaldarshi Thakur Shri Shri Bhajan Bramhachari Baba’s ‘Kalpataru Utsav‘ helds on 9-February of every year at ‘Guru-Ganga’ Old Age Home in Dakshineswar. Guru Ganga, founded by Thakur Shri Shri Bhajan Bramhachari Baba, organizes the Kalpataru Utsav with Sandhu-Bhandara, Bhajan Kirtan, Bhog Prasad and Cultural Function throughout the day (9th February). Nearly 15-20 Monks (Sandhu Maharaj) are invited to Guru Ganga to speak on religious facts, which are known as ‘Sandhu Prabachan’ (Sadhu Katha) during the first few hours of the day (10am – 11:30am) followed by Bhajan Sangeet by the disciples & devotees. In between 12:30pm – 3:30pm Bhog Prasad been served to the pilgrimage on exchange of Bhog Coupon. Sri Sukumar Bhattacharjee, Head of Guru Ganga Old Age Home, arranges a cultural program between 5pm to 9pm with Religious Songs, Dance and sometime with Magic Show.

How to visit Guru-Ganga for Kalpataru Utsav?
Both railway and bus routes are there to come to Guru Ganga from anywhere in Kolkata or Bengal.
Dakshineswar Route:By Train/Bus come to Dakshineswar and take a rickshaw to ‘Chatal Math (play ground)’ –or- ‘Lottery Bari’.
Rathtala B.T.Road Route: By Bus (towards Kamarhati-Sodepur-Barrackpore) come to Rathtala (next to RICE) and take Rickshaw to ‘Chatal Math’ –or- ‘Lottery Bari’.
