M.P.Birla Planetarium is the scientific, educational and research institute located in Kolkata and 2nd July 1963 is the inauguration day of Birla Planetarium in Kolkata by the first Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru.

Birla Planetarium in Kolkata is the largest Planetarium in Asia, India and the second largest in the commonwealth counties after London.

The Birla Institute of Fundamental Research in Kolkata, popular as Birla Planetarium in Kolkata, has been established by Syt. M.P.Birla on approximately one-acre land taken from West Bengal State Government.

Birla Planetarium organizes many events on Solar Eclipses, Celestial Events, National & International seminars on Astronomy in Kolkata and also host many Events on Galileo astronomer and others.

Astronomy Centre of Kolkata, Birla Planetarium has an astronomical observatory equipment using a Celestron C-14 Telescope with accessories like as Solar Filter, ST6 CCD Camera etc for Astronomical Research in Bengal
