The college of Sougata Roy was Presidency College, Kolkata. From Presidency College, Kolkata, Sougata Roy got an M. Sc. Degree in physics. Having retired from Asutosh College, Sougata Roy involved himself more and more in the active politics. Saugata Roy then became a senior member and leader of the All India Trinamool Congress.
Political Career of Sougata Roy
From the student life of Saugata Ray, Sougata Roy was prone to political activities. As a student of the Presidency College, Kolkata, Sougata Roy had played a significant role in the student politics. Sougata Roy was the General Secretary of West Bengal Chhatra Parishad (the student front of Congress) from 1968 to 1970. Sougata Roy was also the General Secretary of the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee (the state unit of Congress) from 1973 to 1977. After the formation of the All India Trinamool Congress, Sougata Roy left Congress and joined All India Trinamool Congress.
As a candidate of the All India Trinamool Congress, Sougata Roy was elected in the 15th Parliamentary Election (Lok Sabha Nirbachan). The Lok Sabha Constituency of Sougata Roy is the Dum Dum Lok Sabha Constituency. Previously, Sougata Roy was elected as a minister from the Barrackpore Lok Sabha Constituency; it was in 1977. Meanwhile, Sougata Roy has served in the state legislature. Sougata Roy was elected for the state legislature from Alipore, Dhakuria and Bangaon.
