History of Nehru Park - Burnpur, Asansol
This park was founded by FWA Lawmeyer in 1963, famous German engineer and General Manager of IISCO- now ISP. At that time this particular spot was just like barrel land. People feared to move in that area in the evening time. FWA Lawmeyer utilized the slopes, undulating terrain to develop this park. During that time FWA Lawmeyer used to visit the park every day and sometimes he was even found working with the gardeners. The German sahib has left the country during 70's still people of Burnpur remember him. Previously it was Riverside park, now it is Nehru park but local people call it Lawmeyer park.

Varieties of rare species of plants are found in this park. All the areas of the park is well connected through walkways. During winter, this park glows with almost all types of seasonal flowers. Other modes entertainment are musical dancing fountain, mini zoo, deer park, toy train, restaurant, big pond for boating. A large number of tourists visit this park. During December-January the number of visitors increases. Every year on 1st January, a huge gathering takes place in this park.
Previously this park was maintained directly by IISCO (ISP). Now it has been leased to a private body. Entrance fee of this park is very nominal.
How to reach the Nehru Park - Burnpur, Asansol
This park is located nearly 14 km from Asansol Railway station and 10 km from Burnpur Railway station. Mini buses from Asansol to Riverside Road via Burnpur is available from Asansol station. Auto is also available.
