Industrialization at Bengal

How Industrialization will be beneficial for the economy of Bengal.

Will it actually be beneficial to convert the economy of Bengal into an industrialised one? Well this topic has lots of flaws in it.

Agriculture in Bengal
Bengal currently is totally dependent on agriculture. People in Bengal are associated with farming or other trade activities of agricultural products such as food grains only. Bengal is one of the largest exporters of rice. A large number of people survive with their agricultural lands only. Again the land in Bengal is very much fertile and the same piece of land can be cultivated about three times a year. Irrigation facilities are also there in Bengal as many perennial rivers pass through Bengal and so water is available almost all time of the year for irrigation. This is a great advantage to the farmers of West Bengal. But still the farmers are under heavy burden by the zamindari system which is still continued in some parts of the state. Due to individual land holdings too farmers are unable to use new technologies and farming methods in such small land holdings. Farmers are under heavy burden and there should be sum new plans for these farmers, proper training about the seeds, fertilizers and pesticides should be given to them. This measures can improve the agricultural activities Bengal.

Industrialization at Bengal
Some industries are also necessary for the economy of Bengal. As agriculture cant employ such a high population in the state. Resources are also available at Bengal so with a little industrialization will always be beneficial for the economy as it will provide high waged jobs to the needy peoples in the state.

But Bengal cant be totally dependent on industries. Agricultural lands should not be converted to industrial ones. Singur project for the car plant by Tatas is a example for this in which the agricultural land was converted two years back. A high amount of protest was going on against it. Industries are also benefited as transportation facility is also available via waterways in which the main is Haldia port and Kolkata. So the goods or raw materials can easily be exported to other countries via ships. West Bengal has a good connection of railway and roadways too. The climatic conditions are also favorable for the people to work hard. So industries should be there but agricultural lands should not be converted to Industrial ones.
