How to change your service provider through Mobile Number Portability (MCP)

After a long wait mobile number portability is effective now in India. Through some simple stapes you can change your mobile service provider as explained below:-

Procedure to change your service provider through Mobile Number Portability (MCP)



1. First of all you have to generate UPC (Unique Porting Code). UPC is an alphanumeric number generated by the service provider on request of the subscriber. This code is required for porting of your number to the new service provider. To generate UPC SMS PORT space your Mobile Number to 1900.
2. After sending the SMS you will get an alpha numeric 8 digit code (UPC) and expiry date of the UPC.
3. After getting the code visit to the nearest service provider showroom. Fill up Mobile Number Porting (MNP) form. You have to give details in the form like existing mobile number, existing service provider name and UPC etc.
4. Documents to be submitted with your filled up form-
(i) Address proof documents
(ii) ID proof documents
(iii)Self attested photo
(iv)Last bill copy (for postpaid only)
5. You have to buy MNP SIM card from the new service provider. SIM charges & talk time charges as applicable and non refundable.
6. During this porting time of your mobile there will be a 2 hour 'No service period' between 12 midnight -5 am. In this time your SIM will be inactive.
