The hot news of today is that Election Commission has declared the dates of West Bengal Bidhan Sabha election 2011.



There was a rumor that after general financial budget the assembly poll dates for West Bengal, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, Assam and Kerala would be declared. General financial budget is declared yesterday and today Election Commission declare the dates of Bidhan Sabha assembly Election 2011.

It is to be noted that the current term of the West Bengal Assembly ends on 11 June.
Total number of voters in West Bengal this time is 5.60 crore.
Total number of polling booth in West Bengal is 51,919.

West Bengal Bidhan Sabha Election 2011 will be on 6 phase.

Schedule of West Bengal Bidhan Sabha assembly Election 2011



1st Phase of election

Notification date is on 24 March and polling date is 18 April. Votes will be on 54 assembly seats. Poll on all 6 North Bengal districts will be held on this date.

2nd Phase of election

Notification date is on 30 March and polling date is 23 April. Votes will be on 50 assembly seats. Murshidabad, Birbhum and Nadia districs are included in this phase of vote.

3rd Phase of election

Notification date is on 2 April and polling date is 27 April. Votes will be on 75 assembly seats. Kolkata, South 24 Paraganas and North 24 Paraganas are included in this phase of voting.

4rth Phase of election

Notification date is on 7 April and polling date is 3 May. Votes will be on 63 assembly seats. Assembly election on Howrah, Hoogly, East Midnapur and a part of Burdwan is scheduled in this phase of voting.

5th Phase of election

Notification date is on 11 April and polling date is 7 May. Votes will be on 38 assembly seats. This phase of voting will cover West Midnapur, Bankura, Purulia and the remaining part of Burdwan.

6th Phase of election

Notification date is on 14 April and polling date is 10 May. Votes will be on 14 assembly seats. Jungle Mahal will vote in this phase of voting.

Counting will be done on 13 May.

Considering the present law and order situation of West Bengal, Election Commission has taken special care for West Bengal Bidhan Sabha Election 2011. In Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry, the election will be in one phase only. In Assam it will be in two phase whereas 6 phase election for West Bengal.

Both Mamata Banerjee and Biman Bose welcomed the six-phase polling as decided by election commission.

Steps taken by Election Commission to ensure fair polling in West Bengal


Electronic voting machines will be used in all polling stations in West Bengal Bidhan Sabha Election 2011. Election commission has declared that on the basis of the assessment of the ground situation, Central Police Forces and State Armed Police will be deployed during the elections to ensure smooth polling. Election commission will take every step to ensure free and fair election in West Bengal Bidhan Sabha Election 2011. Election Commission will appoint Expenditure Observers and Assistant Expenditure Observers to monitor the election expenditure of the contesting candidates of all political parties.

From 1 March onwards, the Model Code of Conduct comes into effect.
