Burdwan Rickshaws.

In Burdwan rickshaws are one of the major source of transportation.

Rickshwas in Burdwan

In Burdwan there are more that two thousand Rickshaws. The main rickshaws are given permission from the Burdwan Municipality. But there are rickshaws in Burdwan which are illegal and without registration. The number of rickshaws in Burdwan is increasing day by day. This is creating lots of problem. The problems are due to the over crowding on the roads
The rickshaw pullers in Burdwan are very cruel and some of them do not behave properly with their passengers. These pullers shout, fight and bargain with the passengers. They have a union for their support every time. All the unemployed people from the villages are moving to Burdwan and they are searching for the job of Rickshaw pullers. There are people in Burdwan who have fifty to hundred rickshaws and these people lend out their rickshaws with a daily rent of about twenty rupees thus increasing the number of rickshaws day by day.
The Rickshaws pullers listen to no one while on road. They think that the road is their only and they don't give pass to the other vehicles too. Each and every moment they are ready to fight with the people on the streets. Some times they do not even follow the traffic rules.
The increasing number of rickshaws are creating traffic jams in Burdwan specially in the B.C road everyday. So many number of rickshaws are moving by such thin lanes of Burdwan. This is now a daily problem in Burdwan and the main sufferers are the Passengers and other persons who have to reach their offices on time.

What could be the solution?

The number of rickshaw pullers in Burdwan should be lessened and this could be done by the Burdwan municipality. Illegal rickshaws and rickshaw trade should not be allowed. This will reduce the number of rickshaws in the town and therefore there will be less jams in the lanes.
Auto Rickshaws should be introduced in Burdwan. Some distances in Burdwan can not be covered with the help of a manual Rickshaw.
Some very thin lanes should not be allowed for the rickshaws as the rickshaws entering there creates jam there. There should be no-entry boards in some lanes or roads in Burdwan for the rickshaws.
