Saurav Ganguly and West Bengal Bidhan Sabha Election 2011


Cricket icon and one of the most popular personalities of West Bengal took part in a public awareness programme of Election Commission of India to generate awareness among the voters about the free and fair poll. Election Commission has declared that Saurav can not participate in any political campaign in the coming West Bengal Bidhan Sabha Election 2011.

There was a rumor that cricket idol of West Bengal, Saurav Ganguly may campaign for CPI (M) candidate Ashok Bhattacharya in the coming West Bengal Bidhan Sabha Election 2011. Ashok Bhattacharya is a candidate from Siliguri assembly constituency. Everybody knows that Saurav shares a good personal relation with Ashok Bhattacharya. Although no such statement came from Saurav that he may campaign for Ashok Bhattacharya. Previously Indian football icon Baichung Bhutia campaigned for Ashok Bhattacharya in assembly elections 2006.

Ashok Bhattacharya takes interest in sports and many veteran and current players have good relation with him. Anyway Election Commission has declared that Saurav can not campaign in this West Bengal Bidhan Sabha Election 2011 and if he campaigns then the video shoot of Saurav for public awareness about poll will not be displayed.
