Bengali New Year 1418 (2011)

Bengali Year 1417 is coming to an end and all Bengalis are waiting to welcome the Bengali New Year 1418. This is a just small article on Bengali New Year or Bengali Poila Baishak.


Bengali Naba Barsha or Poila Boishak is observed as the Bengali New Year in West Bengal. It is celebrated in the month of Boishak (April). Poila Boishak 1418 is dated on April 15 2011.

Importance of this Day:

Bengali New Year is celebrated as a National Holiday in West Bengal.
Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha are worshipped on this Bengali New year Day.
Bengalis enjoy this day and celebrate this day with great enthusiasm. They offer pujas on this day in some religious places or just visit there to pray for their near and dear ones.
Bengalis greet their near and dear ones by wishing them "Subho Naba Barsha".
Bengali Girls/Women wears new dresses or sarees and visits some places just to enjoy this day with their family.
Restaurants and Hotels are also decorated and arrange some mouth-watering dishes for this great occasion.
Those who stay away from their homes also send wishes through sms, e-mails to celebrate this auspicious occasion.
Shopkeepers, and Traders perform the "Halkatha" ceremony on this day that welcomes the advent of Bengali New Year. All shops are cleaned and are decorated with lights, flowers. Traders also welcome their customers on this day with sweets and snacks packets.
