Attractions of Digha
Digha is the most renowned beach on the eastern coast of India gifted by Southern West Bengal. Originally it is known as Beerkul. This is close to the Subarnarekha River on the border with Orissa. It is only 187 km away from from Kolkata and well connected with Kolkata. Digha fascinitates its beauty after the persuation of an English tourist John Frank Smith to West Bengal's chief minister Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy. Digha beach is however facing the problem of sea erosion. Both sunrise and sunset at Digha sea beach covers the whole beauty at a glance. One can experience both the beauty of dawn and twilight at Digha sea beach. The nearest airport NSC Bose International Airport (Kolkata) is about 210 kms away from Digha. Chandaneshwar is the site of an old Shiva temple is only 8 kms away from Digha. The sea at Digha is calm and shallow for about a mile from the beach making it quite safe for swimming. In Digha sea starts about a mile away from the start of the beach. There are daily trains from Shalimar railway station and fourwheelers take 4-5 hours. Shankarpur is an identical beach of Digha, around 10 km. from it. It is also a habitual fishing harbour. Digha has a low gradient with a shallow sand beach with gentle waves extends 7 kms in length.
Attractions of Shantiniketan
Shantiniketan is 211 km from Kolkata. Famous personality of Bengal Rabindranath Tagore founded an International University named Vishva-Bharati here. More from ago in 1863 AD his father Maharshi Debendranath has founded an ashram here. The murals and quality paintings of Rabindranath, Nandlal Bose, Ramkinkar, Bindobehari Mukhopadhyaya is the main features of Shantiniketan. Ofcourse the pure Bengali tradition and the culture shows its reflection here. Shantiniketan Museum and Hill Stations are aleays attracted by the visitors. A natural bird sanctuary with herds of deers named deer park is only 3 km. away from Shantiniketan. moreover an up to date spa within Shanti Shristi adds passion to the wellness of mind and soul truly formulating it to be a desired abode of peace. A Prayer hall made of glass has started showing its beauty since 1863. Rabindranath Tagore's personal poets, paintings & various editions of work are always exhibited in Rabindra Bhavan which is named as Bichitra is also a museum. Rabindra Janmotsab, Briksharopan, Varshamangal, Maghotsav and Vasanta Utsav are the main constituents of Shantiniketan Festivals. There are regular bus services from Kolkata.
