Introduction of Raiganj Bird Sanctuary
Raiganj Bird Sanctuary is located in Raiganj in Uttar Dinajpur district of West Bengal. It covers an area of 35 acres and is surrounded by the Kulki River. Raiganj Bird Sanctuary is considered as the second largest bird sanctuary in whole Asia. This sanctuary is the home to more than 200 species of local birds and some 70,000 migratory birds.
How to reach Raiganj Bird Sanctuary
Malda town is the nearest convenient railway station to Raiganj Bird Sanctuary. Trains are easily available from Howrah, Sealdah railway station in Kolkata to reach there.
Raiganj is well connected by road from Kolkata. Regular night and day bus services are available from Esplanade in Kolkata to Raiganj.

One can visit the Raiganj Bird Sanctuary through out the year but the best time to visit this place is during the months of September to November. The flying training to the young birds is given during this period and it's a very much eye catchy.

Raiganj Bird Sanctuary is a home to large number of local birds like ducks, cuckoos, owls, woodpeckers, king fishers, sparrows, bulbul, doves and many more. Each year various types of migratory birds come to this place from South Asian countries and coastal regions. If you want to catch them then you have to visit it after June. The migratory birds are open-bill, storks, egrets, cormorants and night herons.
