Ilish Pulao-Traditional Bengali Dish


Ilish Pulao is a very famous Bengali recipe. Ilish is very much cooked almost in every Bengali household and Ilish Pulao recipe is one of the mouth-watering dishes of Bengal. This recipe can be cooked in very much less time and it does not need any side dishes. It can be taken during lunch or dinner. Read this full article to know how to prepare this dish.

Ingredients required for preparing Ilish Pulao


4 pieces Ilish
2 Cups Basmati Rice
1 tablespoon Turmeric Powder
2 Silted Green Chillies
1 tablespoon Kalunji
Salt as per taste
Oil as required

Method of Preparation of Ilish Pulao


Apply a pinch of salt and turmeric to the ilish fish pieces and keep them aside for 30 mins.
Wash and soak basmati rice for about an hour or two.
Strain the rice to remove water from it.
Now in a frying pan heat oil.
Fry the ilish fish pieces lightly brown on a medium flame.
After frying keep those fried fish pieces aside.
Now in a different frying pan add some fresh oil and heat it.
Now add the kalunji and silted green chillies to the hot oil.
Fry them until they splutter.
Now add the rice and fry for few mins on a medium flame.
Add a pinch of turmeric powder to it.
Add 2 cups of water to it, salt to taste and bring to boil till the rice is half done.
Now add the fried ilish fishes to the rice one by one.
Now cover the frying pan and cook for another 15 mins till the rice is fully cooked and fishes are tender.
After cooking serve it hot.
