Early Life of Uttam Kumar
Uttam Kumar's birth name was Arun Kumar Chatterjee. He was born on 3rd September in the year 1926 in Ahiritola on North Kolkata in West Bengal. He is the first son of his parents with two younger brothers Barun Kumar Chatterjee and Tarun Kumar Chatterjee. He completed his schooling from South Suburban School of Kolkata and then got admitted in Goenka College of Commerce and Business Administration to complete his graduation level. But due to some financial problems in his family he could not complete his studies and got a job. At that time he worked as clerk at Kolkata Port Trust. Asd a child little Uttam acted in various stage shows organized by various theater group.
Uttam Kumar's Film Career
Uttam Kumar's first released film was Drishdidaan, which was released in the year 1948, but this film became flop. In the year 1952 he was again seen in the movie "Basu Parivar" and his acting in this film got recognized. He acted in this film pairing with Sabitri Chatterjee and also Supriya Devi also seen in this movie as his sister. In the year 1953 his first movie " Sharey Chuattar" pairing Suchitra Sen was released and this film became superhit. After that Uttam Kumar need not have to look back. He successfully paired with Suchitra Sen and one by one all his films became hit. The notable among them are Agnipariksha, Shap Mochan, Sagarika, Harano Sur, Pathe Holo Deri and many more. He not onle acted with Suchitra Sen but his onscreen chemistry with other leading actresses like Supriya Devi, Sabitri Chattetjee, Tanuja, Madhabi, Aprna Sen, and Sharmila Tagore also worked quite well and most of the films became superduper hit. The most noted among them are Sonar Horin (with Supriya Devi), Dhani Meye (with Sabitri), Memsaheb (with Aparna Sen), Antoni Firingi (with Tanuja), Nayak (with Sharmila Tagore). Awards and Accolades of Uttam Kumar
During his acting career Uttam Kumar was bestowed with many awards and praises for his great contribution to Indian Film Industry. He was called as the "Mahanayak" of Bengal and Tollywood Film Industry.
In the year 1957 he got recognition from government of India for his great acting poerformance in the movie Harano Sur.
In the year 1961 he received the BFJA Best Actor Award for the movie Saptabadi.
In the year 1966 he got the BFJA Best Actor Award for the movie Nayak.
He also received many more BFJA best Actor Awards for his super performance in many other films.
He was the first Indian Actor who received the Bharat Award in the year 1957 for his super performance in the movie Antony Firingi and Cririyakhana.
Death of Uttam Kumar
This legendary actor passed on in the year 1980 at the age of 54 while shooting for the movie Ogo Bodhu Shundori. This film was released after his death but it also became superduper hit. So many years have passed after his death but till now he is the Mahanayak of Tollywood Film Industry. No one in the film industry can ever take his place.
