Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata:
The Indian Statistical Institute or ISI was established by Professor P.C. Mahalanobis on 17th December, 1931 in Kolkata. The institute offers courses including research training and application of statistics to the natural and social sciences., The institute achieved the status of an Institution of National stability By an act of Indian Parliament on 1959. The campus is situated in the northern side of Kolkata in Baranagar near the Dunlop Bridge. The institute consists of four other centers in Delhi, Chennai , Tezpu and the other in Bangalore.
The motto of the institute is "Unity in diversity" and also helps in gaining of knowledge on develop statistical theory. Indian Statistical Institute also research in the practice of natural and social sciences with the development of statistics including collection of information, investigation, operation and creation with the idea for increasing suitability of management and production.
The Institute has the some departments, present in Kolkata and Bangalore including Department of Theoretical Statistics and Mathematics Division, Department of Applied Statistics Surveys and Computing Division, Department of Computer and Statistical Service Centre, Department of Social Sciences Division, Department of Economic Analysis Unit, Department of Biological Sciences Division, Department of Physical and Earth Sciences Division, Department of SQC and OR Division, Department of SQC T and P Kolkata.
