This is an admission notification regarding the admission procedure for applying to study an Undergraduate course in English at Jadavpur University. The institution is one of the premier institutions of Kolkata known for its compact and modern sylabbi and enriched faculty.The English Department is headed by Dr.Amlan Das Gupta and the faculty boasts of eminent scholars with an enriched biodata.



Information about Jadavpur University


Jadavpur University is one of the premier instituions of Kolkata. The university was born as the College of Engineering and Technology,Bengal which by 1940 had become functioning as a university.After Independence, the Government of West Bengal, with the concurrence of the Govt. of India, enacted the necessary legislation to establish Jadavpur University on the 24th of December 1955.Now Jadavpur University has successfully established itself as a foremost Indian University with a vast repertoire of courses offered, an enviable list of faculty members and has come to be known for its commitment towards advanced study and research.The university has benefited from scholarly contributions by Prof. Sushil Kumar De, Prof. Amartya Sen, Prof. Ganesh Chandra Bose, Prof. Sudhindranath Datta, Prof. Buddhadev Bose, Prof. Bibhuti Bhusan Sen and many other emninent scholars both from and outside West Bengal.

English Department at Jadavpur University


The Department of English, Jadavpur University, founded in 1956, is the only Centre of Advanced Study in its discipline, a status awarded to it in 2004 by the University Grants Commission.Past heads of department include Subodh Chandra Sengupta, Kitty Scoular Datta, and Sukanta Chaudhuri. The Department provides a hospitable environment for research work and has also published over 25 books in the last decade.The department is presently headed by Dr.Amlan Das Gupta.

Admission Procedure at Jadavpur University


Applications are to be made on-line through the University website www.jaduniv.edu.in or http://juadmissions.org on and from June 3, 2011. The last date for on-line application to the courses is June 15, 2011. There will be a Help Desk housed in Prof. Anita Banerjee Memorial Hall (ground floor, U.G. Arts Building), Jadavpur University Main Campus in case applicants are unable to make on-line applications on their own. The Help Desk facility will be available between 11.00 am and 4.30 pm on all working days (Mondays to Fridays).

An applicant can apply for more than one subject if he/she is eligible. The application fee (including Rs.25/- as service charge of Bank) of Rs.125/- for one subject and an additional fee of Rs.100/- each for other subjects is to be deposited in any branch of State Bank of India by filling in the Pay-in-Slip. There is a helpline (No. +91-7384130712) facility available between 11.00 and 5.00 pm from Mondays to Saturdays. Admission of students under SC/ST/PD quota is as per rules. It is to be noted that Ragging is prohibited as per decision of the Supreme Court of India in Writ Petition No. (c) 656/1998.
