About St.Joseph's Convent
St.Joseph's Convent is an English Medium, Catholic Institution established in 1861 by the registered Society of The Sisters of St.Joseph of Cluny in the Arch-Diocese of Kolkata. Although meant primarily for Catholic students, the school is open to all, irrespective of religion, caste or community. The foundress of this congregation is Blessed Anne Marie Javouhey who is also the patron of the school. The school has been on the banks of the river Hooghly for the past 150 years and is testimony to the pioneering works to the field of education.
The aim of the school is the all-round development of the students. Care is taken to help each one grow spiritually and aesthetically.morally, physically and academically in a homely atmosphere and in close collaboration with parents. No effort is spared to inculcate values and habits of honesty, integrity and loyalty of politeness, respect and neatness, regularity, responsibility and diligence.
The school follows pedagogy of Anne Marie Javouhey which was based on the conviction that "Education consists in showing persons 'how to be more' and not only 'to have more'. They 'should become better', not only for themselves but also with and for others." In this school results are a priority but not the only focus. The school believes in all round development and liberation of the human person, not in just developing their intellect.

The magazine is brought out by the Editorial Board which includes student and teacher representatives. The students of St.Joseph's Convent also participate in various Inter-School competitions, National and International Level Olympiads and Competitions alike and the participants fare well with flying colours.
The teachers of the school believe in not only the academic development of a child but also development in the cultural and physical aspect. Talent competitions, debates and elocutions are held every year in which each and every student is encouraged to participate. Annual concerts and sports are held. Guiding camps and excursions are also held for the senior students.
The school also aids in nurturing the humane aspect of the students. Girls are encouraged to participate in different charity drives and social services. The students are taken to visit old age homes, orphanages and schools for the underprivileged to offer solace and material relief to the inmates.
The school also prepares the students for the ICSE and ISC examinations and also boasts of a 100% success rate almost every year. Students of the school have got admission to colleges and universities like Shri Ram College,Miranda College,Presidency University,Jadavpur University and many other prestigious national and inter-national institutions.

St.Joseph's Convent is spread over a sprawling campus. Several trees surround the institution and the lustrous green is a soothing vision.
The Chapel which is Romanesque in design stands as firmly today as when it was erected in 1720. The beautifully carved wooden doors bear the ensign of the Capuchin order. The domed roof of the Chapel, washed and polished by annual monsoons, shines in the sunlight. It is still in an excellent condition. The massive entrance door has the date 1720 inscribed on its metal framework. The Chapel which silently stood witness to the battle of Chandannagar, teaches tolerance to the people of this place even today
The school has separate building for the junior and senior classes and another in which the nursery classes are held. Biology lab, Physics lab and a Geography lab is also housed in the school. The Computer labs are air-conditioned and there are about 30 computers to seat about 2 students in each for every class. The airy and sunny classes are the main essence of this 150 years old institution. A singing room with a grand piano encourages the students to hone their singing skills. The library boasts of over 20,000 books of most famous writers and also other educational books and journals. A huge hall helps the students to display their cultural talents and seats about 200 students at once. To celebrate the jubilee of this institution an auditorium is being constructed which will contain all the modern technologies. There are two basketball courts and a throwball court where matches take place. A huge playground hosts the annual sports and is usually the place for other physical activities. Two toilets are present in every floor of each of the buildings and some more toilets beside one of the basketball courts. A water-cooler provides relief to the students during the summers.

The Alumni Association of St.Joseph's Convent School, Chandan Nagar -JAAC
Ever since its inception in 1991, the Joseph's Alumni Association of Chandananagar, JAAC, has been endeavoring to find ways to bridge the gap between the past and the present and to touch the lives of all those associated with their Alma Mater.
JAAC conducted regular health check-ups for all school students from 1991 to 1999. JAAC awards prizes to the SJC ICSE toppers to inspire all the students aim at excellence and keep the S.J.C. flag flying high.
People at JAAC believe that they and other past pupils of S.J.C. should feel a moral obligation to assist their Alma Mater in all its charitable projects as a token of gratitude in return for all that they received during their formative years in school.
The ex-students are requested to be a member of this association by enrolment and to support them in all the noble purposes they will to serve.
