Kishenji aka Koteshwar Rao, one of the top Maoist leaders active in West Bengal and the neighbouring states, was shot dead in an encounter with the security forces few hours ago. IBN confirmed from CRPF sources that the 207 Cobra Battalion and the 184 CRPF battalion, coupled with the assisting forces of the West Bengal state police, managed to trace and kill Kishenji, the Maoist leader. It was a successful joint operation.

The place where Kishenji was killed is a remote village called Burishol which is situated in the Jungle Mahal area of the West Bengal.

The birth place Koteswar Rao alias Kishenji was a remote village of Andhra Pradesh. The age of Kishenji at the time of his death, as has been reported, was 53 years. Times of India once called Kishenji a natural leader, a shrewd fighter, a marksman, and a ruthless killer. This guerilla fighter, Kishenji, eventually turned out to be the worst nightmare of the West Bengal State Government, both in the CPI (Marxist) and Trinamool Congress regimes.

Little is known about the early life / childhood of Kishenji. Kishenji probably joined the Maoist guerilla forces at an age of 19, and thereafter, the remaining 34 years of his passed away in waging a relentless resistance against the state. Most of his life during this time was spent in hiding. Once TOI reported that he killed nearly 100 people in the whole life of Kishenji.
