When the Harassment and Assaultating Principals will be stopped In West Bengal Colleges

Since few days, West Bengal colleges are passing through a dark phase. New trend among the students is to assault Principals of colleges. Where is the end? When the students will behave like students? These questions are floating all over the state

Education should be kept away from politics, this was one of the main agendas of the present ruling party before the West Bengal state assembly election 2011. From the very beginning of the new government they have taken many steps so far to keep the education and educational institutes away from politics but many more things are to be done.

One after another incidence of assaulting College Principal is going on in West Bengal colleges. Assaulting the Principal at Raiganj College on 5 January 2012 is really a shameful incidence of 2012 and in future it will be considered as a black spot for Trinamool Congress.

Followed by Raiganj College incidence, the same case occurred in college at Majhdia and Rampurhat College in Birbhum district. On 7 January 2012, the principal Majhdia College was physically assaulted by activists belonging to student wing. In Rampurhat College principal fainted today, on 11 January 2012 after being harassed by students. In Raiganj and Rampurhat Colleges, it is alleged that the students involved in harassing and physically assaulting the principals are from students wings of Trinamool Congress. Majhdia College principal was beaten by SFI, students wings of CPI (M).

What may be the reasons behind these incidences?

In last several years, college election was converted in to a mockery. In most of the colleges, election was not free and fair. In many colleges, nomination filing for opposition political parties student's wings was a nightmare.

Now the situation has been changed but the attitude is the same. Present ruling party supporters are doing the same mistakes done by their prescedor. CPI (M)'s student's wings is trying to get back the colleges and Trinamool Congress students wings is not willing to give up a single college to the opposition.
Activities of some teaching staffs and principals in West Bengal colleges are adding fuel to such tense situation. Detoriation in education in our state is mainly due to faulty education policy of our past state government but our highly qualified teachers can not shrug off their responsibilities. Many teachers, principals, headmasters in our state are simply agents of political parties. For petty gains, they have ignored their duties and served their godfathers.

All these above reasons have reached the saturation point and started bursting.

What steps government can take to stop such incidences in Colleges and Schools

Government has to take stern actions against the hooligans who are involved in harassing and assaulting principals, teachers, and headmasters of schools. Political colour should not be judged while tackling such incidences otherwise government will fail to tackle the situation as very soon there will be election in colleges and after that admission will start. Every year during admission in West Bengal Colleges, incidences of violances occurs. The trouble starts from the very first day of issueing admission forms from colleges. Student's wings of political parties try to increase their members and announcement of merit lists in colleges means again disturbances.

West Bengal schools are also not in a good shape. After the change in power in state government, Trinamool managing committee is in many state aided schools. The problem with the new committee is that they are showing too much enthusiasm staring from education to day to day working of the school. To improve the educational atmosphere in schools, strong vigilance is needed but are the managing committee members are eligible for this type of voluntary job? All most all the members are with political background and incapable for such type of job due to their educational background and motive.

State government should be very careful otherwise people will not tolerate these type of incidences in educational institutes. After 34 years, people raised their voice against misrule, corruption, detoriation in all departments. It is the common people of West Bengal who have given a chance to the new government and constantly they are monitoring every action taken by the government. RabindraSangeet at traffic signals is good but what the state needs first is better education, heath care systems and safety. Since last 2-3 years, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is worshiped like goddess in West Bengal. People have a great faith in her. Hope she will successfully control everything very soon.
