The division of Burdwan district was very much required as it was one of the most over populated districts of West Bengal. According to the 2011 census statistics, the Burdwan district has a population of 77.23 lakh, with a male population of 42.90 lakh and the remaining 17.88 being female citizens.
All the political parties has given their consents for the division of the new Asansol district of West Bengal in the all party meeting yesterday, 16th April, 2012. It will be interesting to see which city becomes the new district headquarter of Asansol district. It is expected that the city of Asansol itself will be the headquarters of the new Asansol district of West Bengal.
While this Bardhaman district division and the creation of the new Asansol district will definitely enhance the administration, the main challenge now is the shortage of required IAS and IPS officials. It will be interesting to see how the government tackles the situation.
